PIPEDA Compliance for MSPs

Deliver PIPEDA Compliance as a Managed Service

Nearly every Canadian business that collects personal information falls under PIPEDA. Nuronus gives your MSP the platform to map all ten Fair Information Principles, automate the safeguards, collect evidence, and hand clients audit-ready readiness reports — with the entire app available in Canadian French.

Free for 2 clients. All features included. No credit card required.

The Problem

Your Canadian Clients Are Governed by PIPEDA. Most Compliance Platforms Ignore It.

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act is Canada's federal private-sector privacy law, enforced by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. It applies to any organization that collects, uses, or discloses personal information in the course of commercial activity — and it carries mandatory breach reporting. Most US-built compliance tools skip PIPEDA entirely, leaving a gap Canadian MSPs can own as a recurring, high-margin service.

  • Clients handle Canadians' personal information but have never mapped it to PIPEDA's ten principles
  • Mandatory OPC breach reporting for a real risk of significant harm is easy to miss until it's too late
  • Consent, purpose, and retention obligations live in policy documents nobody has written
  • US-focused compliance platforms don't cover PIPEDA, so you're stuck with spreadsheets
  • Evidence of safeguards is scattered across email, portals, and screenshots at review time

How It Works

PIPEDA Readiness in Four Phases

1

Map the Personal Information

Identify what personal information a client collects, uses, and discloses in commercial activity, and align it to PIPEDA's ten principles.

2

Assess Current Controls

Run an automated assessment against the Safeguards principle and review the policy and documentation controls behind the other nine. Identify gaps and generate a remediation roadmap.

3

Remediate & Document

Assign owners and deadlines, close safeguard gaps, and complete the consent, retention, and breach-reporting documentation PIPEDA expects.

4

Report & Monitor

Hand the client an audit-ready, white-label PIPEDA readiness report in English or Canadian French, then monitor readiness as an ongoing monthly service.

FAQ

PIPEDA Compliance Questions, Answered

Who does PIPEDA apply to?

PIPEDA applies to organizations that collect, use, or disclose personal information in the course of commercial activity across Canada, except in provinces with substantially similar laws for intra-provincial activity (notably Quebec's Law 25). Federally regulated businesses are covered nationwide. If your clients handle Canadians' personal information commercially, PIPEDA is almost certainly in scope.

What are the ten Fair Information Principles?

They are accountability, identifying purposes, consent, limiting collection, limiting use/disclosure/retention, accuracy, safeguards, openness, individual access, and challenging compliance. They form Schedule 1 of PIPEDA, and Nuronus maps all ten to a single control set.

Does PIPEDA require breach reporting?

Yes. PIPEDA mandates reporting breaches that pose a real risk of significant harm to both the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and the affected individuals, and requires keeping records of all breaches. Nuronus helps you track the controls and records that make this a defensible, documented process.

Is Nuronus available in Canadian French?

Yes. The entire Nuronus app and every client-facing deliverable are available in Canadian French (fr-CA), so you can serve francophone clients and produce bilingual readiness reports.

Can we sell PIPEDA readiness as a service?

Absolutely. That's the model Nuronus is built for. You can package PIPEDA scoping as a fixed-fee first engagement, then deliver ongoing readiness monitoring as a recurring, high-margin managed service — all under your own brand.
