SOC 2: Trust Services Criteria around confidentiality (C1) and processing integrity (PI1) directly apply to how organizations handle data in AI systems. Auditors are beginning to ask about AI governance during SOC 2 assessments.
HIPAA: If an employee enters PHI into an AI tool, that's a potential breach. The new HIPAA Security Rule overhaul's emphasis on data protection and technology asset inventory extends to AI tools accessing ePHI.

You're already tracking security posture, monitoring for gaps, and reporting on compliance status. 2. **Add AI questions to your client assessments** — "What AI tools are your employees using?" should be part of every QBR and risk assessment.
3. **Draft a basic AI acceptable use policy template** — You don't need to be an AI expert. Start with data classification rules and an approved tools list.
4. **Review your vendor risk process** — Make sure AI vendors are included in your TPRM program, not treated as a separate category.
5. **Track the frameworks** — Follow NIST AI RMF developments and watch for AI-specific controls being added to SOC 2, HIPAA, and state privacy regulations.
